General Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine Brought a Case against Kuchma in Relation to Gongadze's Murder

General Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine brought against ex-president Leonid Kuchma criminal case within the limits of investigation of murder of the journalist George Gongadze.

Journalists looked forward to planned press conference of the Ukrainian "agents of national security". General Prosecutor's Office was presented by "the second number" of the department, the first deputy of prosecutor-general Renat Kuzmin.

- I confirm. Really, criminal case has been brought against Leonid Danilovich Kuchma. Hу is suspected in participation in murder of the journalist George Gongadze and illegal actions in relation to the journalist Alexey Podolsky, - the first deputy of prosecutor-general Renat Kuzmin declared at press conference. - He is really forbidden to leave the country.

Kuzmin explained that following the results of legal investigation of Gongadze's murder there is enough data confirming participation of Kuchma in this business.

"A question of qualification of charge - is not today's matter. While he is suspected of abuse of power and giving orders which have led to the crime", - Kuzmin declared.

Besides, according to Kuzmin, well-known "videos of major Melnichenko" which ostensibly prove Kuchma's participation in murder, are nevertheless recognized as the proof with regards to case though before their authenticity was placed into question by experts.

There was also the question about participation in "Gongadze's case" of the present speaker of the parliament Vladimir Litvin who at that time headed presidential administration. "As to Litvin - within the limits of criminal case all versions will be checked up. I repeat - all", - Kuzmin declared.

From editorial board: That's nevertheless is the difference of modern Ukraine from Russia - even ex-president there can become the figurant of the criminal case - in the Russian Federation, as it is known, retiring high-ranking official covers you now what I mean place with lifelong inviolability. Yeltsin on whose head are shoot down parliament and bloody war in own territory is buried on the Novo-Dyevitchiye cemetery, while his friend Danilych will give evidences to the prosecutor-general. The same way it's being done by the former prime minister and the former Minister of Internal Affairs is kept in a pre-trial detention center.

Whether many Russian high-ranking officials whose hands are in blood and reputation - in shit got responsible for "achievements"? The answer is known - none.

It seems that already everything's known about Gongadze's case - direct executors from among higher officers of militia are detained. It is clear that investigation already knows the names of clients. Question is only whether they will or will not prove something. One thing is clear - they will try to prove.

It is clear that series of processes over high-ranking officials - is a policy, the policy of the president. If in case with processes over Timoshenko and Lutsenko it was mopping up of political opponents, in the case against Kuchma, perhaps, it's parting with own past. As a whole it makes very strong impression upon society - today you have country house in the Cane bay, tomorrow - the cell with an eye to prison court yard.

However: "It is such national game in fair Yanukovych which will never have any end. It's bluff and façade", - Timoshenko wrote on her page in Twitter. Scepticism of a woman under investigation is clear.

Though against corruption which is even more visible in Ukraine against general the same way visible poverty such reminder about the pitcher which often goes to the well these processes have effect. Ukraine by definition has less things which is possible to steal but they steal there much more frankly and openly. Probably, it opens now the road to criminal trials against corrupted officials - if they dared to blame Kuchma.

Though, of course, such processes will be accompanied by property repartition. It is clear that processes against corruption don't eradicate it but only lead to some decent norm. Within the limits of bourgeois system corruption can't be treated. Though who told that president Yanukovych is not pleased with bourgeois system? The pianist plays how he could...
